It wasn't able to fly yet, so Micah decided to put it back in it's nest.
But when he got up there.....two more babies fell out. All three of the birds hopped off in different directions and Micah ran around trying to catch them all.

Meanwhile, the mama bird showed up and started circling Micah and swooping at his head. He noticed a 4th baby in the nest, the smallest one of all....and it jumped too. Eventually he gave up and realized there was nothing he could do. The babies had all scattered and the mom wasn't very happy with him.
We don't know what happened to them, the nest is empty now. Maybe they learned how to fly....
I bet you're right. They look like they're about the right age to start flying. Good use of the Mechanix gloves, by the way!
ReplyDeleteMicah's so sweet. Devin would not have been so willing to help. Good try Micah! I hope those birds are ok.
ReplyDeletewhen we try to rescue our baby birds the mama and daddy dive bomb at our heads....squalking (sp?) the whole time. it is scary, but worth it to help the little ones.

This reminds me of when we were in Germany. A swallow nest fell down in a stall with babies. I drove 30 minutes home to get a hanging basket and then3 0 minutes back to get a ladder, put a nail in the rafter, put the nest in the basket and wait and hope. It worked! They came back to nest the next year! I guess Micah comes by it "naturally".
ReplyDeleteAlso.. last year a black snake was on its way in the rafters to a bird nest in our barn. I got the ladder, a stick and wacked the snake down. As it fell, it landed on me.. UGH!!!!! I then beat it up and called to my two nephews who "dispatched" the snake for Aunt Gayle. I told them to not mention it to their Mom.. what did they tell their mom first off? Yep.. the snake story. Poor black snake, but.. do not mess with my baby birds!!!!!
