Things that go crash in the night.

In the wee hours of the 4th of July Micah and I woke up to a crazy noise outside our bedroom window. It was a combination of of crashing, screeching and car tires peeling. I sat up and said "What was that??" Micah and I sat in bed for a minute, then he said...."I bet it was Kristy and Andy's rental car". Turns out he was right. Their car was parked on the street in front of our house. A crowd had already gathered and the police were already on the scene.

The damage:
Although they kept on driving (with a deployed airbag), they left behind their license plate, so it wasn't too hard for the police to track the drug-induced perpetrators down. It was an awful thing to happen to the rental car, but we're pretty glad it was just a car and not the front of our house that was hit.
Here's Andy at 3 am calling Budget to explain the situation.
Thankfully the rest of the 4th was pretty uneventful. Bill and Gayle flew in on the 3rd to party with us! We finished up the day with a local fireworks display on an old battlefield overlooking the water. I love that this person's little boat had a big old flag flying proudly:
Micah waiting for the show to start. We bought Skylar a couple of flashy lighting toys from some vendors to keep her occupied. She couldn't get enough of them.
Kristy called the flashing star "her precious". All I know is it kept her happy until 10 pm when it was finally dark enough for some "boom on the water" as Skylar called them. The battery in the flashing star necklace may have only lasted for a night, but it will live on in our family picture....
